i am a militant, pro-sex feminist, dammit.

So, I took this silly Are you a militant feminist? quiz. And the quiz is [did I mention?] silly and filled with misconceptions about what feminists are and do. But it's funny. And ironic.

In all of that silliness, what stuck out most is that all of the porn-related answers are either "I'm in it" (and presumably exploited) or some variation of "I hate it". As if there were no middle ground for women and porn. At least, not in ironic militant feminist land.

So, I thought, someone must have something to say on the subject of militant pro-sex feminist. Surely! But no! My search returned no results. Gasp.

Well, that's going to change. Soon I will appear in any search for "militant pro-sex feminist". I think you should, too.

[Update] You know, "militant sex-positive feminist" doesn't net you anything, either, but removing the quotes from either search gives you some amusingly contradictory results.

And, for the record, any post I make which includes the word "dammit" should be interpreted as humorous. When cursing in earnest, I always make a concerted effort at correct spelling.

your wicked thoughts

Yay for you. I've never been comfortable describing myself as a radical or militant feminist because so many of them seem to be extremely anti-porn. Which is ridiculous of me, because there's no reason I too cannot identify myself as a pro-sex militant feminist. BTW, did you try searching on "sex positive" instead of pro-sex? Susie Bright springs to mind.

Sex is great and a totally beautiful thing. But so many women become completely comsumed by what a man expects from them sexually. Men turn women into whores. This totally corrupts a womens self-esteem and makes her sexuality perverse. I think sex is way too over-rated and it should be avoided, with man anyway. If women stopped letting men fuck them than maybe men would realize that they do need women and would show them more respect. With all the women cought up in cycles of rape and slavery , i don't think any women should intentional please a man, directly or indirectly. women should take their energies and form a safe haven to heal.
Heal the Earth, heal the women and children. When this light is shining and a man can tolerate it, then maybe he is deserving of the truth from a powerful woman.

I can't even begin to enumerate the ways the idea that "men turn women into whores" offends me.

But then, you're entitled to your opinion. (And for the rest of you who question whether such a thing as feminist separatism exists, I'd say the previous comment to this post is an example of that.)

The problem is not porn, but the fact that society considers women having sex to be degrading (they're "sluts," "whores," etc.) If the attitude towards women and sex changed, porn would not be considered degrading unless it depicts sex as violence or portrays women being dominated by men. The other argument is that porn is for men is sexist and oppressive itself! Who says women don't watch porn? I do! I just don't watch violent porn or anything that shows women being humiliated.
